Jæja

everysinglewordinicelandic:

This is a word that my people often use.

Nobody knows exactly what it means, but they think it is very useful for ending meetings.

You can just say “jæja”, and stand up.

And then, all the humans will know that their meeting is over.

(If you are very clever, and think you have a good translation, you can tell me.)

LOL

Ég hló virkilega upphátt :) Snilldar hugmynd að setja upp þetta blogg - allt í kringum Iceland wants to be your friend er svo brillíant. Valgeir er snillingur :)

Tíst

everysinglewordinicelandic:

Until a very short time ago, only my birds and mice knew how to make tísts.

Now many of my people make them, too, on their Inter-net.

It means “tweet”.

(My people like to make old words in their language do new things like that. I will show you more words like that later.)

A nice man named Sveinbjörn made the first tíst in my people’s language. It is not much, but you can see it here.

And if you think my people’s language has good words in it, you can follow it on the Twitter, here.

Áhugavert… hef einmitt stundum verið að velta fyrir mér hvort maður ætti að skrifa e-mail eða email (hef séð fleiri og fleiri nota email). Ég hef reyndar yfirleitt skrifað þetta sem e-mail, kannski bara af gömlum vana… Ætli maður reyni ekki núna að skrifa þetta sem email framvegis.

Líka áhugavert að sjá að þeir breyttu úr “Web site” yfir í “website” í fyrra. Ég hef eiginlega alltaf skrifað website.

Ég setti upp enn annað Tumblr bloggið (svo auðvelt, svo gaman).

Mér fannst alveg nauðsynlegt að safna saman nokkrum gullmolum frá IMDb - sumir af þessum titlum eru alveg stórkostlegir.

Urban Word of the Day.

“A parking spot that appears to be open, but is actually taken by a small car or motorcycle. Also can refer to a car that takes up 90% of its own spot and 10% of the one next to it, leaving no room for another car to park.”

Er alltaf að lenda í þessu, nánast daglega.

Glæsilegt. Gott að hafa þetta á hreinu.

Marketing people in Germany like to use the English language to give products or events an appearance of internationalism and modernity - even if their own language skills are somewhat lacking. A new client asked me to create promotional material for a camping trip on which the participants will…

Já, vá hvað Þjóðverjarnir geta verið óheppnir með orð. Maður hefur rekist á ófáar vörurnar og bæklingana sem eru vægast sagt vandræðalegir/illskiljanlegir.

Þetta er gullmoli. Eiginlega of ótrúlegt til að vera satt.
